Diseñador y fabricante de aviones británico. En 1910 construyó y piloteó un avión con un motor de 50 HP. Formó su propia compañía en 1920 y fabricó el biplaza Moth (
polilla),
un éxito comercial. En la segunda guerra mundial, el bimotor Mosquito fue el producto más destacado de la empresa. Después de la guerra, fue un pionero en la fabricación de aviones propulsados a reacción, con su jet para pasajeros Comet y los cazas de reacción Vampire y Venom.
